As part of our commitment at Volunteer State News to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we requested this information under the Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq. The specific details sought include student names, their home zip codes or hometowns, and the names of their graduated high schools.
Our aim in gathering and reporting this information is to uphold public institutions' accountability and ensure transparency for the public. As a media organization, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.
We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information to the public. We await Tusculum University's response and will continue striving towards delivering accurate and timely news coverage for our readers.
