The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has launched a statewide initiative to repair potholes caused by recent heavy rains and winter weather. TDOT is utilizing all available resources, including contractors, to address the damage swiftly.

"Each year, we anticipate severe weather will impact our roads, and we've proactively planned for pothole repairs while also addressing winter conditions,” stated Deputy Governor and TDOT Commissioner Butch Eley. “Our teams have been focused on putting contracts in place ahead of time, enabling us to immediately mobilize and begin repairs. This approach ensures we can respond quickly and effectively, prioritizing the safety and service of Tennesseans."

Repair crews will be active over the coming days and weeks using cold mix asphalt for temporary fixes. Permanent repairs are scheduled for spring and early summer when hot mix asphalt becomes more available.

Motorists may experience short-term traffic delays during these operations. Although efforts will be made to conduct repairs during off-peak hours (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. weekdays), some lane closures might extend into late afternoons, evenings, or weekends. Drivers are encouraged to be patient and cautious around TDOT crews on interstates and state highways.

Weather conditions or emergencies could disrupt repair schedules. TDOT does not maintain records of the number of potholes repaired or the cost per repair as these activities are part of regular highway maintenance operations. Potholes can be reported via the TDOTFIX Hotline at 833-TDOTFIX or through an online maintenance request form.

Travelers can access current road conditions and live-streaming traffic cameras at www.TNSmartWay.com/Traffic or dial 511 for travel information. Updates are also available on Twitter at https://twitter.com/myTDOT.
