Drivers on Interstate 75 in Hamilton County should prepare for road construction that may affect traffic flow. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is undertaking a project to enhance the I-75 interchange at Hamilton Place Mall. This involves the installation of concrete beams for a new bridge over I-75 at Hamilton Place Boulevard, scheduled to begin on Monday, February 10. The work will occur nightly from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time until Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
The construction activities will lead to rolling roadblocks and lane closures in both directions on I-75, as well as temporary closures of the loop ramp to I-75 South from Hamilton Place Boulevard. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution and anticipate delays due to reduced speed limits throughout the project area. It is important for motorists to pay attention to signage and be aware of construction personnel and vehicles.
The work schedule depends on weather conditions, and any adverse weather or unforeseen circumstances could lead to rescheduling. Uniformed police officers will be present for traffic control and law enforcement purposes.
TDOT urges drivers to use available motorist information tools responsibly and "Know Before You Go!" by checking travel conditions before departure. It is recommended not to tweet, text, or talk on cell phones while driving. For updates on construction activity and traffic conditions, travelers can refer to the TDOT SmartWay Map or call 511 for statewide travel information.
Additionally, drivers should remember the Move Over Law enacted in 2006 in Tennessee, which mandates moving over for emergency vehicles stopped on the roadway. Violating this law could result in up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $500.
