FOIA Request Sent to Tennessee Secretary of State - Elections Division Regarding Spring Elections Candidates for Office on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Tennessee Secretary of State - Elections Division on February 5, 2025. The request was made by Volunteer State News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In our quest for transparency and accountability in public institutions, we sought specific details about the candidates running for the upcoming spring elections. We requested records under the Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq., preferably in electronic format.

The information we requested includes a list of all candidates that are running for this upcoming election. We asked for the candidate's first name, middle name, last name, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and party affiliation.

In addition to these details, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to serving the public interest through thorough reporting and analysis of government affairs, we believe access to such records is essential. This will enable us to provide our readers with accurate information about who is running for office in their local jurisdictions.

We have also stated our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public.

Volunteer State News remains committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to our readers.
