Tennessee's small business community is urging lawmakers to prioritize their interests as the General Assembly session begins. NFIB State Director Jim Brown emphasized the importance of considering how proposed legislation could affect Main Street businesses.
"Small business is the foundation of Tennessee’s economy," said Brown. "The General Assembly must think carefully before passing any legislation this session that adds to the burden facing Tennessee’s job creators."
Brown highlighted a specific resolution, SJR 1/HJR 2, which proposes a constitutional amendment allowing voters to ban a statewide property tax. He believes this measure would shield small businesses from additional financial burdens that could impede growth and job creation.
"Small businesses account for most employers in the state," Brown stated. "By maintaining a business-friendly climate and rejecting politics that create unnecessary costs, the General Assembly can help strengthen Tennessee’s economic climate, and that, in turn, would help everybody."
