Carson-Newman University Eagles Find Success in the Consolation Brackets of the ITA Regionals

Marnix Van Dalen takes first place in the consolation bracket. Ids Waterbolk advanced to the final in a separate consolation bracket.

After day two, The Eagles were left without a competitor in the ITA Regionals' main bracket on the Palmetto Sports Complex courts in Sumter, S.C. The Eagles advanced three to the consolation brackets.

Marnix Van Dalen was upset by Xaveam Van Wijk in the round of 64 in the main draw but landed in the consolation bracket. Van Dalen won his first match in the consolation bracket 6-4 and 6-1. His next match against Rufus Plane was settled in a tiebreaking set, but Van Dalen walked away with the 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 victory to win first in his consolation bracket.

Waterbolk won his first match in the consolation bracket against Nicolas Chan. The final score was 6-4 and 7-5. Ids fell in the final round against Markus Sorenson with scores of 6-4 and 7-5.

Rintaro Oka was matched up against Zachary Cox in the first round of his consolation bracket. Oka could not compete due to soreness, so Cox took the walkover victory.

The Eagles will resume action starting on Oct. 14th, when they head to Belmont, N.C., to take on the BAC Invitational.
