Drivers on Interstate 40 in Putnam County, Tennessee, should prepare for road construction that will affect traffic flow. On January 30, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will conduct a mobile pothole patching operation. This will necessitate temporary closures of the right lane in both directions between mile markers 290 and 304.
Travelers are advised to exercise caution and anticipate delays, particularly around Monterey Mountain. Signage will be placed to guide drivers through the work zone. The work is dependent on weather conditions; if adverse weather or unforeseen issues arise, it will be rescheduled. Police officers will be on site to assist with traffic control.
Drivers are reminded to use all available information tools effectively and check travel conditions before setting out. It is crucial not to tweet, text, or talk on cell phones while driving. Updates on construction activity can be found via the TDOT SmartWay Map or by calling 511 for statewide travel information.
The Move Over Law enacted in 2006 requires drivers to change lanes when approaching stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights. Violations can result in up to 30 days in jail and fines reaching $500.
