A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Lincoln Memorial University regarding admission records for the 2024-25 school year on December 12, 2024.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Volunteer State News requested these records under the Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq. The requested information includes a list of names of all students admitted to the school for the upcoming academic year with specific fields such as student name, home zip/hometown, and graduated high school name.
We believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As part of our role in disseminating information, we have also sought eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional.
Our request aims at ensuring that public institutions remain transparent and accountable. We await a positive response from Lincoln Memorial University and will continue to provide comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs.
