A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the American Baptist College regarding a list of all students admitted to the school for the 2024-25 academic year on December 12, 2024.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Volunteer State News are dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities.
The request specifically asked for a list of names of all students admitted to the school for the 2024-25 school year with specific fields including student name, home zip/hometown, and graduated high school name. This information is requested under the Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq., preferably in electronic format.
We believe that as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We eagerly await a response from American Baptist College regarding this request.
