The American Principles Project (APP) has filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court in support of Tennessee’s law that prohibits sex-change drugs and surgeries for minors. This action is part of the case United States v. Skrmetti.

The brief argues that Tennessee’s law is constitutional and necessary, citing emerging evidence that questions the effectiveness and benefits of “gender affirming care.” It also asserts that this issue should be resolved through the democratic process. Currently, 25 states have enacted laws that restrict sex-change procedures for minors in various ways.

“In recent months, the full scale of the egregious medical malpractice of so-called ‘gender affirming care’ has become horrifyingly clear," APP President Terry Schilling said. "Thanks to recent research, we know that tens of thousands of American children are being given drugs and surgeries to alter their sex characteristics, and we know that the industry pushing these ‘treatments’ is making over $4 billion annually."

"“With the Biden-Harris administration fully committed to defending gender ideology, many states like Tennessee have been forced to take action to protect children from this predatory industry," said Schilling. "They are right to do so, and it is absurd to argue the Constitution says otherwise. We urge the Supreme Court to uphold Tennessee’s law and affirm the right of the American people to safeguard their kids from medical harm.”

Earlier this year, APP published a report titled “The Gender Industrial Complex,” which examines the $4.4 billion transgender medical industry. The report details the costs of drugs and surgeries, potential health complications for patients, and the financial gains of pharmaceutical companies and hospitals involved in this sector.
