WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee and co-chair of the Senate Rural Health Caucus, was today honored as a “Champion of Health Care Innovation” by the Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC) for her ongoing support of patient-centered medical progress.

“As I meet annually with community leaders across all 95 counties in Tennessee, access to patient-centered health care is a top conversation,” said Senator Blackburn. “Whether it’s expanding health care in rural areas or addressing the nation’s nursing shortage, I understand the importance of quality and reliable care, and I will continue to prioritize it as I serve the Volunteer State.”

• Earlier this year, Senator Blackburn unveiled her Rural Health Agenda for the 118th Congress, aimed at addressing health care challenges in rural America to maintain quality care close to home. 
• Many of Senator Blackburn’s priorities were included in the CARES Act that was passed during the pandemic, including allowing telehealth care across state lines and with many different types of providers. She is now pushing to make those changes permanent.
• Senator Blackburn is fighting to improve patient access to cutting-edge diagnostic technologies with her bipartisan Facilitating Innovative Nuclear Diagnostics (FIND) Act. 
• Senator Blackburn is working to address the national nursing shortage and incentivize the training of the next generation of the nursing workforce through the bipartisan (PRECEPT) Nurses Act.
• Senator Blackburn recently introduced the Patients Before Middlemen (PBM) Act to help lower prescription drug costs by delinking the compensation of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) from a drug’s list price.
