Drivers on Interstate 40 in Putnam County should prepare for road construction that will affect traffic. On February 4, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm local time, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) maintenance crews will conduct a mobile pothole patching operation. This work will necessitate temporary closures in the right lane of I-40 in both directions between mile markers 290 and 304.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traveling through this area and anticipate significant delays, particularly on Monterey Mountain. Signage will guide drivers through the work zone. The schedule is weather-dependent, and any inclement weather or unforeseen issues may lead to rescheduling. Uniformed police officers will be present for traffic control and law enforcement purposes.

Drivers are reminded to utilize motorist information tools effectively and "Know Before You Go!" by checking travel conditions before departure. It is crucial not to tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while driving. For updates on construction activity and traffic conditions, consult the TDOT SmartWay Map or call 511 for statewide travel information.

The Move Over Law was enacted in 2006. Violating this law in Tennessee can result in up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $500.
