The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has announced upcoming lane and on-ramp closures for emergency asphalt repairs on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County. The work will take place near Sam Ridley Parkway (State Route 266) in Smyrna.
Starting Tuesday, January 28, from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m., I-24 East will be reduced to two lanes between mile markers 66 and 68. Additionally, the I-24 East on-ramp from SR 266 will be closed. The repairs will continue on Wednesday and Thursday from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. TDOT crews are addressing potholes and repairing damaged asphalt caused by extreme freeze/thaw cycles from recent winter storms.
Drivers are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and move over when passing through the work zone. The Move Over Law, enacted in 2006, mandates these precautions, with penalties for violations including up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $500.
Motorists can report potholes by calling the TDOTFIX Hotline at 833-TDOTFIX or by using the online form available through TDOT Maintenance Request. For updates on construction activity and traffic conditions, travelers can consult the TDOT SmartWay Map at https://smartway.tn.gov or call 511 for travel information.
