A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Memphis Theological Seminary on December 12, 2024. This request, issued by Volunteer State News, sought comprehensive details about the student admissions for the academic year of 2024-25.

In our pursuit of accurate and transparent reporting on local governmental affairs, we at Volunteer State News have requested specific records under the Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq. Our request specifically calls for a list of all students admitted to the school for the upcoming academic year.

The information we've asked for includes each student's name, their home zip code or hometown, and the name of their graduated high school. We believe that access to these public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities as journalists. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

As a media organization committed to disseminating information to the public, we've also requested a fee waiver for this information under our status as media professionals.

We are currently awaiting a response from Memphis Theological Seminary regarding this request.
