FOIA Request Sent to SAE Institute of Technology-Nashville Regarding List of Admitted Students for 2024-25 School Year on December 12, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the SAE Institute of Technology-Nashville on December 12, 2024. The request was made by Volunteer State News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In the request, we sought a list of all students admitted to the school for the academic year 2024-25. The information requested included specific fields such as the student's name, home zip code or hometown, and the name of their graduated high school.

As a media organization, our role is to gather and report news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

The Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq., supports our request for this information in an electronic format. We await a response from the SAE Institute of Technology-Nashville regarding this matter.
