FOIA Request to Carson-Newman University Regarding Admitted Students' Information for the 2024-25 School Year on December 12, 2024.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Volunteer State News have sent a request under the Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq., to Carson-Newman University. The request is for a list of names of all students admitted to the school for the 2024-25 school year.
The specific fields requested include each student's name, home zip code or hometown, and the name of their graduated high school. We believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information as a media organization, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await the university's response and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
