A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Cumberland University regarding the admission list for the 2024-25 school year on December 12, 2024.

The request, made by Volunteer State News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, asked for a list of names of all students admitted to the school for the upcoming academic year. The desired information includes not only student names but also their home zip codes or hometowns and the names of their graduated high schools.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we at Volunteer State News believe that access to such records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We also believe that as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Tennessee Open Records Act.

We eagerly await Cumberland University's response to this request as we continue our mission to provide accurate and timely information about local education matters.
