FOIA Request to Southern College of Optometry Regarding List of Admitted Students for 2024-25 School Year on December 12, 2024.
At Volunteer State News, we have officially submitted a request under the Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq., for the names of all students admitted to the Southern College of Optometry for the upcoming academic year. The request specifically asks for the list to include each student's name, home zip code or hometown, and graduated high school name.
As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We await a response from the Southern College of Optometry regarding this request.
