A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the University of Memphis regarding a list of all students admitted to the school for the 2024-25 academic year on December 12, 2024.

The request, filed by Volunteer State News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, asked for specific details about each admitted student. These details include the student's name, home zip code or hometown, and the name of their graduated high school.

As members of Volunteer State News, we are committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

The request was made under the Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq., and it was preferred that the records be provided in an electronic format.
