The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (7-7) played two games today in the 2023 PFX The Spring Games. The Trojans defeated Lewis University (7-5), 2-0, before beating Glenville State University (3-5), 6-2, on their opening day at The Spring Games.
SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
It is the first win for Trevecca in the all-time series with Lewis. Lewis still holds a 2-1 edge in the series. Trevecca and Glenville played for the first time.
HOW IT HAPPENED
LEWIS NOTES:
Neither team scored through the first five innings, but in the top of the sixth, Kendall Andrews led off with a walk and moved to second on a stolen base. An out later Sarah Nicholson reached on a bunt single and stole second. A hit by a pitch for Carly Sperlich loaded the bases and then an out later a hit by a pitch to Kyleigh Burgett forced in the first run of the game.
In the top of the seventh, Anna Bennett reached on a single. Bennett moved to third when Kendall Andrews reached on an error with one away. Bennett scored on a sacrifice fly by Gracie Kirby for a 2-0 Trojan advantage.
Ashlan Sensing (3-3) made the two runs hold up with a seven-inning complete game shutout. She allowed four runs with no walks. She struck out four batters.
GLENVILLE STATE NOTES:
The Trojans scored two in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 lead. Anna Bennett led off with a single then moved to third on a fielder's choice and error. Kendall Andrews reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second, while Anna Bennett scored on the error. Andrews stole third and scored on an error on the play.
Anna Bennett scored again in the third following a single, she scored on a sacrifice fly from Gracie Kirby.
LEWIS - CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
- Anna Bennett went 2-4 with a run scored.
- Four different Trojans reached on a base hit.
- Kyleigh Burgett was 1-1 with a walk and an RBI.
- TNU had four stolen bases – Andrews (2), Nicholson, and Brown.
- Anna Bennett went 2-4 with three runs scored.
- Sarah Nicholson went 2-3.
- Maddie Poschke and Malone Thrift both went 2-3.
- Brianna Asmondy (1-0) got her first win in relief going 3.2 innings.
