The No. 3 Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team toppled Mars Hill 87-65 at Chambers Gym Wednesday night to extend its winning streak to 17 games and sweep the season series over the Lions.
The Railsplitters (18-1, 8-0 South Atlantic Conference) struggled to put away the Lions (4-12, 1-7 SAC), leading 37-32 at halftime, but they quickly built a 10-point lead after Quay Kennedy's layup with 14:20 to play, and they would lead by double-digits from there.
Jordan Walters posted a game-high 25 points on an efficient shooting night (10-11 field goals) while adding five rebounds and energizing the team with multiple dunks. Quay Kennedy got to the rim for layups and free throw line consistently in the second half to add 20 points, while also having nine rebounds on the night. Matthew Sells was the third Railsplitters in double-figures, contributing 14 points to the effort.
Lincoln Memorial shot 58.3 percent from the field (28-48) and 83.3 percent from the foul line (25-30) while winning the battle of the boards 37-29 and outscoring the Lions 42-26 on points in the paint.
The Lions were led by 19 points from Kendall Davis and 18 from Kory Davis, but they couldn't avenge the 80-56 Lincoln Memorial win at Tex Turner Arena in the conference opener back on Nov. 26.
The Railsplitters host Newberry on Saturday at 4 p.m. in what will be their first home SAC game in two weeks.
