Jakov Igrec was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Swimmer of the Week for his performance during the eighth week of the 2022-23 swim season.
Igrec is a freshman for the Eagles from Varazdin, Croatia and competed with Carson-Newman against Emory & Henry on Saturday, Dec. 10. The Eagles won gold in every event of the meet in both men's and women's events and finished the meet with a final score of 327-74.
Among those first-place finishes was Igrec in the men's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.31. Igrec also competed in the 1000-yard freestyle event and finished third for the Eagles, touching the wall in 10:37.72.
Igrec was accompanied by six other men's swimmers who snagged first-place finishes on the afternoon. The men contributed 162 points to the team's overall score.
"It's a job well done to the team for doing what we set out to do. We are excited that we are in a good place right now," Carson-Newman head swim coach Ben Young said.
Igrec and the rest of the Eagles are back in action Jan. 19 in Knoxville, Tenn.
