Trevecca Nazarene University Men's Basketball Bisons Top Trojans in Exhibition

The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-6, 0-2 Great Midwest) lost to Lipscomb University (6-2, 0-0 ASUN) in an exhibition game on Monday night and fell 87-49.

THE SERIES

The Trojans trail the Bison 47-16 in the all-time series. Before tonight, the two teams last met in an exhibition game during the 2019 season in which Lipscomb won 96-72. The Trojans held a two-point halftime lead in that loss.

THE FLOW

On the first possession, the Bisons fed big man Ahsan Asadullah in the paint for the first points. The Trojans' first trip down the floor ended in a Lawrence Brazil III made 3-pointer to take their first lead of the night. The Trojans' offense was rolling early when a Caleb Terry dunk and another Brazil 3-pointer gave Trevecca an 11-7 advantage in the opening four minutes. A little over four minutes later, the Trojans were looking at a 15-11 lead after Jaden Smallwood drove into the paint and scored with 11:47 to play. From there, the Bisons utilized a 19-0 run over the next nine minutes to pull away late in the opening half. As time expired, Josh Goings sank a 3-pointer to give Trevecca some momentum heading into half as Lipscomb led, 33-22.

Lipscomb opened the second half on a 9-0 run to open up a 44-22 lead just two minutes into the half. Josh Goings scored a team-high eight points in the second half, but the 11-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome. The Bisons collected the 87-49 win behind Jaco Ognacevic's 24 points.

THE PLAYERS

Josh Goings had a team-most 13 points to lead Trevecca in the loss. Seth Thomas came off the bench to add six points and a team-high six rebounds while Caleb Terry finished with eight points, four rebounds, and two blocks.

THE TEAMS

The Trojans shot 37.0% (19-52) from the floor, 25.0% (6-24) from three-point range, and 55.6% (5-9) from the free-throw line. The Bisons hit nearly half their shots, 34-69 (49.3%), were 7-29 (24.1%) from three-point range, and made 12 of their 20 free throws (60.0%)
