Lipscomb University Women’s Basketball earns emphatic win on the road at Western Kentucky

Final Score: Lipscomb: 84, Western Kentucky 66
Location: Bowling Green, Ky. (E.A. Diddle Arena)
Records:  Lipscomb: (4-3), Western Kentucky (1-4)

THE SHORT STORY

Lipscomb women's basketball was dialed in offensively early and carried that momentum to a dominated 84-66 win on the road. The Bisons earned their first win over the Lady Toppers in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bisons opened the contested connecting on first three shots all of which were from three-point range to push them to a 9-4 early advantage. Jalyn Holcomb began what turn out to be a solid night from the floor with one of those threes.

They continued to get open looks due to good ball movement as they were able to run their offense effectively.

Lipscomb closed the quarter on a 12-5 run as Molly Heard and Jalyn Holcomb put in five points each during that span to take a 27-15 lead after one. The squad shot an impressive 11-of-14 from the floor led by Holcomb with 10 first quarter points.

The squad increased their lead to as much as 23 in the second quarter, but WKU went on a 18-7 run to close to quarter cutting their deficit to just 12 (50-38) at the half.

The Bisons ended the first half shooting 9-of-14 from deep. Heard continued to provide a spark off the bench totaling eight in the quarter.

As the contested enter the second half, the Bisons shooting would cool down after a hot first half. The Bisons relied on their defense to maintain their double-digit lead in the third quarter.

Lipscomb forced the Lady Toppers into shooting 3-of-19 from the floor and 0-of-9 from deep while putting in 20 points of their own to take a 70-49 lead into the final quarter.

Claira McGowan would come on in the third quarter to lead the Bisons with seven points off the bench.

In the fourth, the Bisons began to slow the pace offensively to maintain they're lead. Some foul trouble and unfortunate turnovers gave the Lady Toppers some life as they started the quarter on a 6-1 run to cut Lipscomb's lead to 12 with 6:42 remaining.

However, Bisons quickly answered and closed the game on a 12-6 run of their own including threes from McGowan and Vinson to win on the road 84-66.
