The University of Memphis No. 4 Tigers Knock Off No. 5 East Carolina in Overtime Thriller

The Memphis Tiger women's soccer team is headed to the semi-final round of the American Athletic Conference Championship after they claimed a 1-0 victory over East Carolina this afternoon.

 

After today's game, Memphis moves to 8-5-4 for the season.

 

KEY MOMENTS

  • Memphis opened the game with a corner kick within the first three minutes of play where Mackenzie Bray nearly headed one past ECU goalkeeper, Maeve English, who stopped it.
  • The Tigers would get shots on-goal from Mya Jones and Saorla Miller in the second half but could not find the back of the net.
  • Claire Wyville made a game-saving stop with 15 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
  • The game-winning goal would come in the 99' when Grace Stordy found Mya Jones in the box who connected with the back of the net to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead.
  • The Memphis defense would hold ECU shotless through both overtimes to secure the 1-0 win and advance to the semi-final round.
