Walters State wrapped up their time at the SMC Invitational on Saturday afternoon, falling to host Spartanburg Methodist 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-19).
With the loss, Walters State fell to 2-1 on the season.
The Lady Senators put up a battle in the first set but were unable to close it out, falling 26-24.
In the second set, the Lady Senators started strong with the first four points as Bella Webb had an ace and Jordan Moore had a kill and block. However, Spartanburg immediately answered back with four straight points to tie the set up.
From there, the Lady Senators would hold a slim lead as Maddie Rockrohr had three kills in four points and Webb had a kill to make it 9-6. Unfortunately from there, the Lady Pioneers would rally off 10 straight points and take a 16-9 lead. Walters State would fight from there as Mercedes Collins had two kills, as well as Mackenzie Sweigart, Rockrohr and Haylee Richardson each totaling a kill. However, Spartanburg Methodist closed the set out with a 25-19 victory.
In the final set of the match, Walters State took an early lead at 3-2 as freshman Rachel Miller had two kills, but Spartanburg Methodist took a 4-3 lead and never trailed. Moore had two kills in the set while Miller added two more.
