Saving lives by giving blood
For Kristina Bobell, donating blood is personal.
“I have friends who would not be alive today if it had not been for people who donated blood,” Bobell said.
Bobell has donated several gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. She donated another pint Friday at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office during the annual Rutherford County Battle of the Badges bloodmobile.
She was one of 31 people who donated blood during the drive.
Bobell works in the medical field and understands how critical it is to have a supply of blood available. Red Cross employees previously told Bobell her blood can be used to help mothers and babies.
“As a mom, if you can help other moms, that’s encouraging,” Bobell said.
Many Sheriff’s Office employees joined Bobell in donating blood.
Patrol Deputy Tyler Cravens was joined by his father and his aunt in giving blood. His family gave blood last year while he was in the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy. His academy class also donated blood.
The Red Cross reports blood donations help patients with cancer, sickle cell disease, burns and chronic diseases. Victims of car crashes and people undergoing operations may also need blood.
We thank everyone who took the time to donate blood and the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni Association members who volunteered to help with the drive.
