U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) introduced several amendments that target the Democrats' budget agenda, Iran and China.
Blackburn said she was “fighting back against radical left policies by introducing 13 different amendments to counteract the liberal agenda that is putting our nation on the wrong path.”
“One amendment would restrict China and another would prevent us from going back into the Iran nuclear deal, another would make sure that the Democrats have to get 60 votes on this budget, not do it with the simple majority," Blackburn said, the Epoch Times reported.
China-based company Huawei was also targeted in the amendments, with Blackburn calling on the government to ban the purchase of telecommunications equipment produced by the company.
Sen. Ted Cruz earlier this week placed a hold on the confirmation of President Joe Biden’s choice for commerce secretary, Gina Raimondo, saying she has not yet clarified her position concerning Huawei, which is already on a restricted trade list.
The Trump administration placed Huawei on a trading blacklist due to security fears. About 25 House Republicans, led by Rep. Michael McCaul (Texas), released a statement outlining the alleged threat they say the Chinese telecom equipment giant poses to national security. The Biden administration has yet to clarify its intentions for Huawei.
