U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said she was not happy with the attacks at the U.S. Capitol that occurred today.
Blackburn said while some of the protests were peaceful, the violent attacks were unacceptable.
“These actions at the US Capitol by protesters are truly despicable and unacceptable,” Blackburn tweeted. “While I am safe and sheltering in place, these protests are prohibiting us from doing our constitutional duty.”
Blackburn said she wanted to make it clear she did not support the violence.
“I condemn them in the strongest possible terms,” Blackburn said. “We are a nation of laws.”
Blackburn’s followers replied to her tweet, saying they were glad she was safe.
Some said it was Antifa that had incited the violence and not conservative protesters.
“With all due respect no one has done a thing to stop our Country from being taken away!” one user replied. “They will control all three branches now”
Others questioned if Antifa members were masquerading as supporters of President Donald Trump.
One user said that while it was clear that violence should not have occurred, it was because no one was listening.
“Violence isn’t the answer but everyone looked over the fraud and they are not going to sit back and be run over anymore,” the user said. “Sad it had to happen today.”
