The University of Memphis announced on May 11 that Morgan Wilson will move on from her role as head coach of the mixed rifle program, with Zych set to take over as the new coordinator.
This change is significant for the Memphis Tigers Rifle team, marking a transition in leadership after Wilson’s tenure. The appointment follows Zych’s decorated collegiate career at Memphis.
“I am incredibly grateful to Morgan for her leadership and the foundation that she built in this role,” said Zych. “She has been an exceptional mentor and coach and has left an undeniable mark on this program. I am honored for the opportunity to continue being a part of this program’s growth and I am looking forward to continuing its momentum.”
Zych transitions from student-athlete to program coordinator after earning multiple honors, including two-time CRCA First Team All-American, two-time CRCA Second Team All-American, and seven-time All-GARC honoree. In her final season, she posted averages of 585 in smallbore, 594.0 in air rifle, and 1179.5 aggregate score. She was recognized as the 2025 USA Shooting 50m Smallbore Champion in both Women’s and Junior Women’s Divisions and finished as runner-up in the Junior Olympics division.
Throughout her time at Memphis, Zych also earned honorable mentions across various categories on All-GARC teams and achieved academic recognition as a four-time CRCA Scholastic All-American along with receiving the 2024 NCAA Rifle Championships Elite 90 Award.
The broader impact of this transition may be seen as Zych aims to build upon Wilson’s foundation while guiding future athletes within the program.
