Vanderbilt Lacrosse entered the Top 25 rankings this week for the first time this season and will host Hofstra this Saturday, Feb. 18, at noon; the game will be on ESPN+.

Last Outing

Vanderbilt opened the 2023 season last weekend, earning their first Top 25 win of the season and knocking off No. 25 Colorado in an overtime thriller on Feb. 10. Bri Gross notched an overtime game-winner, and Nancy Halleron tallied a career-best five goals, lifting the Dores to an 11-10 victory.

The Commodores then fell to No. 9 Denver on Feb. 12, despite making a fourth-quarter push to come within four, 9-5. The Pioneers held on to win 11-6. Paige Gunning recorded 12 saves in the game, totaling 24 saves in the weekend. Coming into this weekend, Gunning is tied for third most saves in the country this season with Emily Manning of Binghamton and Lilly Callahan of Notre Dame. Sam Horan of San Diego State leads the category with 29 saves, and Ashley Herrick of St. Bonaventure has the second-most with 25 saves this season.

Looking Ahead to Hofstra

In their season opener last weekend, Hofstra topped Long Island 14-6. Katie Kelly led the team with a game-high three goals, two of which came in the third period. Hofstra had five other players score at least two goals throughout the game. Hofstra nearly doubled Long Island in shots on goal attempts, 19-10, and didn’t allow the Sharks more than four shot attempts in any period.

Record Watches

Gross needs just 16 draw controls to tie the Vanderbilt career record (263), which is held by Ally Carey (2009–12).

Gunning has 417 career saves, just 71 saves shy of tying the career record of 488 saves set by Ashley Bastinelli (2002–05).
