Vanderbilt lost to Missouri 4-1 in the final game of their baseball series at Taylor Stadium on May 10.
The result means Missouri clinched the series, ending Vanderbilt’s hopes for a comeback in the last matchup. The Commodores took an early lead, but were unable to recover after Missouri responded quickly and held onto their advantage.
Vanderbilt opened scoring in the first inning when Ryker Waite was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and scored following a defensive error by Missouri. However, Missouri answered with three runs in their half of the first inning after capitalizing on a leadoff walk, three singles, and an RBI groundout.
Jacob Faulkner pitched for Vanderbilt from the second inning onward and kept Missouri scoreless over five and two-thirds innings while allowing only two hits. Despite his efforts, Vanderbilt could not close the gap as both teams remained scoreless until the eighth inning. In that frame, Missouri hit a leadoff triple followed by a sacrifice fly to extend their lead to 4-1.
The Commodores did not manage another rally in the ninth inning. With this loss, they will return home to Nashville for their final regular season games against South Carolina starting Thursday at Hawkins Field.
Looking ahead, Vanderbilt aims to finish strong as they prepare for postseason play.
