Tennessee lost to No. 3/4 Texas, 13-6, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on May 10, ending its streak of four consecutive series finale wins.
The game was significant as it marked Senior Day for the Volunteers and featured a standout performance by Reese Chapman. Despite his efforts, Tennessee could not contain the Longhorns’ offense.
Chapman hit two home runs, including a grand slam in the first inning that tied the game at four runs each. He finished with six runs batted in, matching his career high. However, Texas took an early lead with four runs in the first inning and continued to build their advantage throughout the game.
Texas hitters Adrian Rodriguez and Casey Borba contributed key home runs early on. The Longhorns extended their lead with additional scoring in later innings, including a grand slam by Borba in the sixth that put them ahead 12-4. Tennessee briefly closed the gap when Chapman hit his second homer of the day—a two-run shot—making it a 12-6 contest.
The Volunteers struggled on the mound with ten walks issued by their pitching staff. Freshman relievers Chandler Day and Will Haas provided some stability but were unable to stop Texas from securing victory. Haiden Leffew pitched three scoreless innings for Texas to earn his fourth win of the season.
Looking ahead, Tennessee will host Belmont for its final regular-season home game before traveling to Oklahoma City for a series against Oklahoma.
