Southeast Missouri won both games of a doubleheader against the Tennessee Tech softball team on May 1. The Redhawks used a five-run inning in the first game and secured a walk-off win in extra innings in the second game.
The outcome is important for Tennessee Tech as it affects their seeding for next week’s Ohio Valley Conference Softball Championships. If Tennessee Tech wins its final regular season game on Saturday, it will secure the No. 6 seed. If they lose and Southern Indiana defeats UT Martin, the Golden Eagles will drop to seventh but cannot fall any lower.
In the opening game, Addison Abell allowed seven runs over less than two innings, while Faith Rush and Hannah Lange pitched in relief. SEMO’s Maddie Carney pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on four hits. Aubrey Shore hit a three-run home run for SEMO during their big second inning.
Tennessee Tech managed to tie the score early with Makayli Harris driving in Ashley Capelouto and another run scoring on a fielder’s choice before SEMO pulled away. Hits for Tennessee Tech came from Sofia Carroll, Capelouto, Abbee Klinefelter, and Harris.
In the second contest, Emily York pitched more than eight innings for Tennessee Tech but took the loss after an error allowed SEMO’s Mary Tutwiler to score from second base in the ninth inning. Alina Schlageter and Ella Bishop recorded hits for Tennessee Tech in that game.
The results set up an important final regular season matchup as both teams prepare for postseason play.
